BEFORE YOU CHOOSE

What owning home gym equipment is really like

Four details decide where your machine lives and how often you'll use it.

Woman carrying the folded WalkingPad R3 on its wheels

Measure the room first

A curved treadmill like the Tru Grit Runner needs 79 x 35 in of floor. A WalkingPad R3 folds in half and rolls away on its wheels. A BenchK Swedish ladder fixes to the wall and leaves the floor free.

Battery powered LCD display of the Tru Grit Runner

Many machines need no outlet

Our curved treadmills run on your own stride, and their displays run on batteries. Dynamic Fluid water rowers have battery powered monitors. Swedish ladders and Pilates equipment need no power at all. Walking pads, motorized treadmills, and vibration plates plug into a standard outlet.

Delivery to your curb

Large machines arrive by freight to the curb, and the carrier calls ahead to schedule. Plan for two people to carry them in. Walking pads ship by parcel with tracking by email. Shipping is free in the contiguous US.

Protect your floor

A rubber mat under a treadmill or rower protects the floor and cuts noise. Swedish ladders need solid concrete or brick at least 4.7 in thick, or the BenchK wall holder on stud walls.

Home gym equipment FAQs

Straight answers on space, power, delivery, and where to start.

How do I choose the right home gym equipment?
  • Treadmills: For running, we recommend a curved manual treadmill like the Tru Grit Runner or the PRO 6 Arcadia. Your stride sets the speed, with no motor. See all treadmills.
  • Walking pads: For walking at a standing desk, walking pads fold in half and store under a sofa or bed.
  • Rowing machines: Water rowers from Dynamic Fluid Fitness and WalkingPad train your legs, core, back, and arms with smooth water resistance.
  • Upper body ergometers: Upper body ergometers like the Dynamic Fluid M850 train your arms and core from a seated position.
  • Strength machines: Our strength machines include the Dynamic Fluid P918 squat press and the P928 functional trainer, built around adjustable water resistance instead of weight plates.
  • Wall bars: Swedish ladders from BenchK combine pull ups, dips, and core work on one wall. BenchK won the FIBO Innovation Award in 2022.
  • Vibration plates: Vibration plates from VibePlate, made in Nebraska, add low impact strength and balance work.
  • Pilates: Pilates equipment from Elina Pilates covers reformers, chairs, Cadillacs, and ladder barrels.
  • Still deciding?: Read how to choose a vibration plate or which Pilates apparatus fits your goals.
What home gym equipment do I need to start?

Start with one machine for cardio and one for strength. We recommend a water rower or a curved treadmill for cardio, and a Swedish ladder for strength.

The ladder gives you pull ups, dips, and core work on a single wall. Add a Pilates reformer or a vibration plate later for mobility and low impact days.

What is the best home gym equipment for small spaces?

For small spaces, we recommend a walking pad and a Swedish ladder. The WalkingPad R3 folds in half and stores under a sofa. A BenchK ladder fixes to the wall and uses almost no floor.

For rowing, the WalkingPad WM10 TriFold folds in three when you're done.

What is the best low impact exercise equipment?

We recommend a water rower for low impact cardio. You train seated, and each stroke moves your legs, core, back, and arms together.

For low impact strength and mobility, a Pilates reformer uses springs instead of heavy weights. A vibration plate adds balance and strength work while you stand on the platform.

Treadmill or rowing machine: which is better for home?

Choose a rowing machine for full body cardio in less space, with low impact on your joints. Choose a treadmill if running or walking is the habit you already have.

For most home gyms with limited space, we recommend starting with a water rower.

Which home gym machines work without electricity?

Our curved manual treadmills run on your own stride: the Tru Grit Runner, the Tru Grit Runner Elite, and the PRO 6 Arcadia. Dynamic Fluid water rowers have battery powered monitors. Swedish ladders and Pilates equipment need no power.

Walking pads, motorized treadmills, and vibration plates use a standard outlet.

How is home gym equipment delivered and set up?

Shipping is free in the contiguous US. Large machines arrive by freight to the curb, and the carrier calls ahead to schedule a time. Walking pads and smaller pieces ship by parcel with tracking by email.

Each product page lists the shipping time, what's included, and how much assembly it needs.

Can I pay over time or with HSA or FSA?

Yes. Shop Pay Installments lets you pay over time, with monthly payments and 0% APR options for eligible customers.

Some products may be eligible for HSA or FSA payment through Truemed. Ask us before you order and we'll check your product.
