What Owning a Barrel Sauna Is Really Like
A barrel sauna should become an easy part of your backyard routine. Getting there means planning the electrical service, the foundation, and the delivery and assembly before it arrives.
Outdoor Electrical Is Its Own Project
Most outdoor saunas need dedicated 240V service, commonly 20 to 50 amps depending on heater output. Some traditional models also need a separate 120V circuit for lighting and controls, so always work from the exact spec on the product page. We recommend a licensed electrician for the installation.
The Foundation Has to Be Ready Before the Sauna Arrives
A flat, stable, well drained base rated for the assembled weight is a must. Concrete slabs and proper paver or deck installations are the common options. Confirm dimensions and weight, and have the site reviewed by a qualified local installer when needed.
Built for Every Season, With a Little Extra Care in Winter
These cabins are designed for year-round outdoor use, though preheating can take longer in cold weather. Keep the surrounding area well drained, inspect the exterior periodically for weathering, and follow your model's specific wood-care guidance.
Delivery Is Curbside and Assembly Takes Two or More
Outdoor saunas ship in multiple packages and arrive unassembled, so plan the access route from the curb to the installation site before ordering. Larger cabins often need extra hands or lifting equipment. We Can Assemble offers professional setup you book directly by ZIP code.
Barrel Sauna Frequently Asked Questions
How do I pick the right barrel sauna?
- Size: Our barrels seat 2, 4 or 6. The St. Moritz fits two in a smaller yard. The Arosa and Zurich seat four, and the Zurich's bronze glass front feels more open. The Klosters gives six people room to stretch out.
- Heat: Every barrel here uses a traditional stove with stones, so you can pour water for steam. Want infrared too? Look at our hybrid saunas.
- Power: Each barrel needs a dedicated 240V circuit for the stove and a 120V line for the lights.
- Not set on a barrel?: Cabins give you straight walls and more bench space. See all outdoor saunas or our traditional saunas.
